About Us

Kids Make Theatre is about young people shining and sharing their unique expressive selves with the world. Through participation in the theatrical arts, our student artists grow in confidence and self-expression.  They work hard, learn theatre skills, make friends, and have fun. Every student is an important part of the Kids Make Theatre creative community. We are not about “stars.”  Join with us to empower young voices!

Work with Us

Love teaching kids & theatre? We have the perfect job for you! We’re hiring part-time Teaching Artists to teach classes, camps, workshops and to work on Lab Productions.

Where are you located?

Kids Make Theatre is located on the second floor of The Liberty Theatre,
1203 Commercial St, Astoria, OR 97103.  Programs will be in person, unless we need to go virtual for safety or a long distance theatrical professional is joining us to teach.

What age students do you work with?

We work with students ages 3.5 – 18. Not all ages may have classes at all times, but, as we grow, we’ll keep adding programming!

Do students need previous theatre experience?

Not at all! We welcome students of all experience levels. Our programming includes classes and workshops designed for those brand new to theatre, as well as plenty of theatre adventures to grow into.

What if my kid is very shy, or doesn't want to perform?

We welcome them! Theatre is a perfect way to build confidence, make friends, and take safe, supported steps toward feeling comfortable in front of people. (A lot of theatre professionals, including actors, are quite shy by the way. :).) Theatre takes a village and every person belongs and is valued for who they are. That’s one of the very special things about the art of theatre.

It’s also fun to explore the many wonderful ways to be a part of theatre that aren’t on the stage. The list of non-acting roles includes light, sound, set and costume design, directing, playwrighting, stage management, running tech… and many more! Our programming includes opportunities to learn these type of “backstage” skills. When our new black box Lab space is completed, kids will be able to practice applying their skills, both on and off the stage, in a kid-sized, fully equipped, state-of-the-art theatre space.

Also, not all classes and workshops end in sharing with friends and family. That can put a lot of pressure on kids, and it’s nice to sometimes share and celebrate with your classmates and teachers.

Will tuition assistance be available?

Yes! Thanks to our generous donors, tuition assistance will be available as soon as open for enrollment.
