Join award winning author and veteran, Karl Marlantes, for a conversation about his work. Marlantes is a graduate of Yale University and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. He served as a Marine in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Bronze Star, and several other medals. He won the Washington State Book Award for Matterhorn, a book The New York Times declared, “One of the most profound and devastating novels ever to come out of Vietnam–or any war.” His novel Deep River focuses on the Finnish immigrants who settled the lower Columbia region, and his newest book, Cold Victory, revisits similar themes, examining the political situation in Finland during WWII.
Marlantes will speak about his work and then sit down with Marianne Monson for an on-stage interview. Questions from the audience are welcome. Sponsored by The Writers Guild, Astoria-based literary arts nonprofit.
